South teams claim three victories in Eastern’s 45th annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic


WILBURTON, OK (May 30, 2017) – The South teams were victorious in three of the four games played in Eastern Oklahoma State College’s 45th annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic May 26-27 in Wilburton. The South teams claimed victories in girls’ and boys’ basketball and softball. The North team secured its only win in baseball.

The Kiamichi All-Star Classic kicked off on Friday evening with the girls’ basketball game. The South team took an early lead and never looked back, cruising to a 77-54 win over the North. Jacey Engler of Wright City led all scorers with 16 points, four rebounds and five steals. Rattan’s Nealy Noel made 10 shots to win the three-point shooting contest, just edging Quinton’s Macey McKee’s nine three-pointers.

The boys’ basketball was a much closer contest, as the South team pulled away in overtime to clinch a 122-111 victory. The North team, led by Zayne Goode of Stuart with a game high 22 points and 12 rebounds, rallied from a double-digit deficit to send the game into overtime. Hugo’s Kyan Freeman led the South with 17 points. Taylor Cox of Durant won the three-point contest with 12 buckets over Stuart’s Zayne Goode who finished with nine. A sideline reverse jam by Kinta’s Jude Johnson won the dunk contest.

The North and South teams split victories on Saturday during the softball and baseball games.

Wilburton’s Kirstie Blackwood hit two home runs to help lead the South to a 14-8 victory over the North on the softball field. She finished 2-for-2 on the day adding a walk and three RBIs to her two home runs. Tuska’s Brooklyn Patterson added a grand slam to help secure the South’s victory.

The North earned their sole victory of the weekend with a 9-5 victory over the South on the baseball diamond. McAlester’s Conner Steward finished 2-for-3 with a three-run double and Panama’s Tristan Thompson also went 2-for-3 with one run and two RBIs to lead the North.
