GEAR UP Youth Congress participants visit Oklahoma Congressmen

Members of the 2012 NCCEP/GEAR UP Youth Congress recently met with Congressmen from their home states to share their stories and experiences with GEAR UP. The students, who are part of Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP grant program, were in Washington, DC for the annual conference.

Several of the students met with Representative James Lankford, Representative Tom Cole, Representative Frank Lucas and Representative Dan Boren. They presented each Congressman with a book of letters from more than 700 GEAR UP students who participated in 2012 summer camps at Eastern.

The Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) is a federal initiative to increase the number of students who enter and successfully transition into postsecondary education.
