The Eastern women’s soccer team celebrates a win over No. 1 seed Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in the Region II Tournament.
WILBURTON (Nov. 12, 2014) – The Eastern Oklahoma State College soccer season recently ended with the men’s team making it to the Region II Tournament and the women advancing to the Plains District Tournament.
The women’s soccer team defeated the No. 1 seed Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 1-0 in the regional tournament, propelling the Lady Mountaineers to the final round against Northern Oklahoma College which ended their season as one of the top 15 teams in the nation. Northern was victorious in that match and Eastern earned runner up honors for Region II to advance to the district tournament.
In the district tournament Eastern faced Hill College which was an opponent that defeated Eastern twice in the regular season. However, in the district tournament Eastern would be the victor by a score of 3-2. Eastern advanced to the district championship against Novarro College who finished the season as the No. 5 team in the nation.
The Lady Mountaineers were defeated by Navarro 3-0, but have the titles as the runner-up in their region and district.
“It is more motivation to keep getting better for next season,” said Head Coach Irving Peralta. “We played tough and gave Navarro our best.”
The men’s team faced Northern Oklahoma College in the regional tournament. NOC had only lost two games the entire season and defeated the Mountaineers 3-1. By making the regional tournament in its first year, the programs look to have more success in future seasons.
“We are only getting better,” said Peralta. “We anticipate more success in the future.”
