Eastern’s annual Homecoming celebration set for Nov. 4-9
WILBURTON, OK (Oct. 22, 2019) – Eastern Oklahoma State College has scheduled its annual Homecoming celebration for Nov. 4-9 in Wilburton. The theme of this year’s event is “Move Mountains.” In addition to the numerous student events planned across campus, Eastern will proudly welcome alumni and community members to a variety of events.
The annual Community Chili Cook-Off will take place Monday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Tourtellotte Student Center Ballroom. The event is free and open to the public. Individuals, businesses and organizations are invited to enter their tastiest chili recipe. The competition will honor the best recipe in three categories, as well as a “Taster’s Choice” award voted on by those in attendance. The annual Mountaineer 5K will take place Saturday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in downtown Wilburton. Registration is $35, or $25 for students K-12 or with EOSC ID. All race proceeds benefit the Eastern Alumni Scholarship Fund. This year’s run is registered with the Choctaw Nation’s Promoting Active Communities Everywhere (PACE) program. Participants will meet at the intersection of Main St. and Central Ave. This location will serve as the start and finish point of the race. Medallions will be awarded to the top three finishers in multiple age categories and the first overall male and female participant will receive a plaque. Following the 5K, Eastern will host the Mountaineer Tailgate at noon in the Amphitheater located behind the Tourtellotte Student Center. The community is invited to enjoy free hamburgers, performances by the Eastern Expressions, tailgate-style games and a Mountaineer Spirit Sign browse.
Beginning at 2 p.m., the Lady Mountaineers will face-off against Oklahoma Wesleyan University and the Mountaineers will take on OKC Storm at 5 p.m. Coronation will take place between the games at approximately 4 p.m.
After the basketball games, Eastern will host the inaugural Agricultural Hall of Fame Celebration in the Goddard Building at 7 p.m. Former Eastern Agriculture Instructor Ray Rice will be the first inductee in Eastern’s Agricultural Hall of Fame. The event will also feature a barbecue dinner, silent and live auctions, and a performance by the Bo Phillips Band. Tickets are available in pairs for $50 and all proceeds will support scholarships for EOSC Agriculture students. Online registration is available at eosc.edu/AgHallofFame through Nov. 5.
