Eastern to increase scholarship opportunities for fall 2014

WILBURTON, OK (Feb. 10, 2014) – Eastern Oklahoma State College will increase the amount and number of institutional scholarships available to students beginning next fall.

“Scholarships can be life-changing for many potential students who might not otherwise be able to attend college,” said Dr. Stephen Glazier, vice president of Student Affairs. “By increasing the value of these scholarships and the number of scholarships available, we hope to provide more opportunities for students to reach their dream of earning a college degree.”

Previously, Eastern offered 53 institutional scholarships per year. This fall the college will offer 113. These are in addition to the dozens of scholarships provided by generous donors through the Eastern Foundation.

Glazier said there is only one application for all scholarships and the deadline to apply for the fall 2014 semester is Friday, Feb. 21.

“We’ve tried to make the process as easy as possible for students and their parents or guardians,” Glazier said. “Applicants can fill out one form and they will be considered for all institutional and EOSC Foundation scholarships based on different factors such as academic merit, financial need and their area of study.”

Changes to Eastern’s institutional scholarships include a tuition waiver increase from $1,250 to $1,500 and a room waiver increase from $400 to $800 each semester for Presidential Leadership scholars. Also, Academic Scholars will now receive a $400 room waiver in addition to a $1,000 tuition waiver per semester. To qualify for Presidential Leadership and Academic Scholars scholarships, students must have a 3.7 GPA or at least an ACT composite score of 23.

Eastern is increasing the number of Eastern Opportunity scholarships available from 20 to 40. Students will receive a $500 tuition waiver and $400 room waiver per semester. To qualify, students must have a 3.20 GPA and involvement in school or community activities.

A new Residential Scholarship will be awarded to 40 students who will receive $400 per semester toward residence hall costs. Students need a 2.75 GPA and involvement in school or community activities to qualify.
