Eastern to honor veterans and active service members with free lunch and special program Nov. 10


WILBURTON, OK (Nov. 6, 2017) – Eastern Oklahoma State College will host its annual Veterans Day Observance Friday, Nov. 10 at 1:30 p.m. in the E.E. Tourtellotte Student Center Ballroom. The event is open to the public and all area veterans and active service members are invited to participate.

Former and current military members are invited to enjoy a free lunch between noon and 1 p.m. from The Coal Mine, also located in the Student Center.

Eastern nursing student Billy Thibodeaux, of McAlester, Oklahoma, will be the keynote speaker. Marine Corporal Thibodeaux enlisted when he was 19 years old and has served his country for four years. After completing boot camp and infantry school, Thibodeaux was first deployed to Iraq with the 3rd Battalion 9th Marines, the last Marine infantry battalion stationed there. His other service includes an additional two deployments, both to Afghanistan. His first deployment to Afghanistan was again with the 3rd Battalion 9th Marines, and his second deployment with the 2nd Battalion 6th Marines.

Eastern’s Music Department will perform a number of patriotic songs including “Brothers in Arms” and a trumpet recital of “Taps.” Free refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the program.
