Eastern students inducted into international academic honor society


WILBURTON, OK (Dec. 14, 2015) – A group of 35 Eastern students recently qualified to join Phi Theta Kappa, the prestigious academic honor society for associate degree programs and institutions.

Founded in 1918 at Stephens College, the organization’s mission is recognizing and encouraging scholarship, and developing leadership and service at two-year institutions. Membership is by invite-only, and requires the student to have completed at least 12 hours of coursework while maintaining a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Those inducted include Lee Baugus, Talihina; Kelsey Brillo, McAlester; Jordan Campagna, Red Oak; Chris Coplen, Stigler; Jamie Cripps, Krebs; Tiersten Fairchilds, Eufaula; Chad Goggans, Talihina; Christie Goggans, Talihina; Monika Hamman, Nashoba; Jacob Hammons, Proctor; Cheryl Hanley, Antlers; Jenilee Herrick, McAlester; Lavona Jackson, Hartshorne; Crystal Jacob, McAlester; Emley Jacob, McAlester; Jessica Jamison, Wright City; Lindsy LaRue, McAlester; Amber Luttrell, Stuart; Taylor Mobbs, Caney; Kammie Mussett, Valliant; Garrett Rogers, Clayton; Aspen Scroggins, McAlester; Roger Shirley, Indianola; Samuel Simco, Quinton; Tara Sisk, Talihina; Ashlee Skidmore, McAlester; Morgan Spradlin, Sand Springs; T’anna Talley, Idabel; Kaysee Thames, Indianola; Billy Thibodeaux, McAlester; Katie Thompson, Eufaula; and Kayla Ward, Finley. Also inducted, representing Arkansas, were Roberto Castro, Springdale; Bethany Farmer, Beebe; and Whitley Madison, Dardanelle.

Being inducted into Phi Theta Kappa empowers these students with a competitive edge. Not only do they become part of a network of nearly 3 million fellow scholars, they are now eligible for $37 million in scholarship opportunities. They are also entitled to special benefits and discount offers from Phi Theta Kappa’s corporate partners, which comprises the Bank of America, Geico, and USA Today, among others.
