Eastern Music Department welcomes Alaska & Madi for first-ever Performing Arts Series
WILBURTON, OK (Dec. 14, 2016) – The Eastern Oklahoma State College Music Department will host its first-ever Performing Arts Series on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. The family-friendly event will feature country music duo Alaska & Madi, the Tulsa natives who gained national recognition in 2014 after their appearance on NBC’s “The Voice.” The show will be opened by the Eastern Expressions and Oklahoma Kids.
The event was established to assist in continuing the Music Department’s nearly 100-year legacy. All proceeds from the event will be applied towards scholarships and departmental needs for current and future students.
“We are honored to welcome Alaska and Madi as the featured guests for our first Performing Arts Series,” said Dr. Brandon Hendrix, Eastern’s director of instrumental and choral ensembles. “They have accomplished what many of my students hope to achieve: creating music as a career. We also would like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation, in advance, for the funding support this performance will generate.”
Despite being eliminated early in the season, Alaska and Madi successfully launched themselves into Nashville, where they are currently working on their second album.
The duo will take the stage in Eastern’s Student Center Ballroom in Wilburton following performances by the Eastern Expressions and Oklahoma Kids. The Eastern Expressions, started in 2014, is the college’s student-led rock band that performs hits from today’s most popular music. Oklahoma Kids is a music organization open to performers 18 and younger with a focus on preparing young musicians for careers in the music industry.
Tickets start at $25. An appetizer bar is included with every ticket and an assortment of additional features, including a meet-and-greet, are available at different price points. Individual tickets and corporate sponsorships are available for purchase at alaskaandmadi.eventbrite.com.
