Eastern livestock judging teams compete at 2016 Tri-State Fair


WILBURTON, OK (Sept. 27, 2016) – Eastern Oklahoma State College’s livestock judging team recently participated in the Tri-State Fair in Amarillo, Texas.

Eastern’s freshmen team competed as “novices” in the junior college division and came in first place overall. They placed first in swine judging and third in both beef judging and sheep and goat judging.

The sophomore team competed as “pros” in the same division and won second place overall. They claimed first place in beef judging and fifth place in sheep and goat judging.

In addition to the team categories, several team members placed well as individuals.

Freshman students who competed at the Fair include Kash Allen of Bunch, who also placed eighth in sheep judging and sixth as individual overall; Brook Busby of Chickasha; Tierra Christian of Ada; Nathan Davis of Mountain View, who also placed seventh in reasons, eighth in beef and seventh as individual overall; Chyanne Fogg of Lowell, Arkansas, who also placed seventh in swine; Jarrod Halphen of Tuttle, who also placed third in swine; Tanner Keiss of Watson; and Hannah Palmer of Idabel.

Sophomore students who competed at the Fair include Bryana Brinkley of Jefferson City, Missouri; Jared Engler of Broken Bow; Brett Looten of Olean, Missouri, who also placed 10th in cattle and 10th as individual overall; Paul Shanks of Belle, Missouri, who also placed third in swine; and James Webb of Unionville, Missouri.

Since 1921 the Tri-State Fair has welcomed participants from Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. The Fair now returns approximately $500,000 in premiums, awards and tickets to regional youth each year.
