Eastern hires Kirk Kelley as head baseball coach

WILBURTON (August 4, 2016) – Eastern Oklahoma State College has announced that Kirk Kelley will be the next head baseball coach for the Mountaineers. Kelley takes over for Craig Price, who recently resigned his position to pursue a career in real estate.

Kelley, who brings 19 years of baseball experience at both the collegiate and professional level, said he was excited to earn the opportunity to be at Eastern because of its rich history.

"It's the tradition, (great) facility, the opportunity to jump into a winning program," Kelley said. "It's a beautiful campus in a great area."

Kelley has amassed 595 career wins as a collegiate head coach and has served as president of the NAIA Baseball Coaches Association. He has immediately gone to work picking up where his predecessor left off.

"I want the players to play with passion," Kelley said. "You don't get to play this game forever, so I want to see them take advantage of every day."

Kelley has experience from working at such institutions as Lyon College, where he was also the athletic director, and the University of Central Arkansas. While at Eastern, he said he plans to continue the Mountaineer baseball tradition.

"They finished with a dogpile last year," Kelley said. "It'd be nice to do that again."
