Eastern GEAR UP teachers attend T3 International Conference in Orlando

WILBURTON, OK (March. 9, 2016) – Four area math and science teachers from Eastern Oklahoma State College GEAR UP partner schools along with Eastern’s GEAR UP Project Director attended the 2016 Teachers Teaching with Technology (T3) International Conference in Orlando, Florida, as guests of Texas Instruments. The 28th Annual Conference featured over 350 workshops, the largest event for math and science professional development. Attendees found new ideas and proven solutions to sharpen instruction by learning from some of the top educators in the world who are shaping the future of math and science education; improve student understanding by effectively incorporating TI educational technology into classroom instruction; enhance curriculum with new content for STEM and standards–based learning; and empower and inspire students to pursue STEM–related careers.

Partner school teachers were Liz Belcher, Panama; Lisa Goddard, Wilburton; Tim Collier, McAlester; and Ryan Meadows, Atoka. Eastern GEAR UP Project Director Linda Morgan also attended the conference.

“We have wonderful teachers in southeastern Oklahoma, and I was privileged to attend the T3 International Conference with four of the best,” said GEAR UP Project Director Linda Morgan. “Texas Instruments is a tremendous asset to the math and science teachers in our partner schools. Not only do they provide local professional development and coaching to our teachers, they provide international learning opportunities. T3 International Conference is a great opportunity for our teachers to learn from the best worldwide.”

The opening general session featured keynote speaker Dr. Dylan William, Emeritus Professor of Educational Assessment Institute of Education, University of London.

In addition to attending various workshops, the GEAR UP delegation attended several activities specially designed for GEAR UP.

In 2011, Eastern received a seven–year, $12.6 million federal GEAR UP grant and is in its fifth year of implementation.
