Career and College Expo set for Oct. 2 in McAlester

WILBURTON, OK (Sept. 22, 2014) – The eighth annual Career and College Expo is set for Thursday, Oct. 2 at the Southeast Expo Center in McAlester and event organizers are looking for additional exhibitors to help hundreds of area students explore career and education opportunities.

The Career and College Expo, which is from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is a hands-on experience designed to get eighth grade students to think about their future education and career goals and take the necessary steps now to work toward them.

Anne Brooks, director of Eastern Oklahoma State College’s McAlester campus, said organizers are looking for businesses and organizations to help introduce students to a new education or career choice that many they hadn’t previously considered.

Exhibitors typically share a variety of information about their college, business or organization including the education and training needed for specific jobs and advice for students interested in a career field. Most exhibitors provide hands-on activities and interaction, such as practicing medical procedures on mannequins, taking photographs in a photo booth, trying on law enforcement and fire protection gear, and speaking on air during a live radio broadcast.

The event is being organized by Eastern Oklahoma State College, Kiamichi Technology Center, the City of McAlester, McAlester Chamber of Commerce, McAlester Regional Health Center, Pride in McAlester and McAlester Public Schools.

To register as an exhibitor or for more information, contact Brooks at abrooks@eosc.edu or 918-302-3603.
