Alaska & Madi to conduct songwriting workshop as part of first-ever Performing Arts Series
WILBURTON, OK (Jan. 23, 2017) – Country music duo Alaska & Madi will conduct a songwriting workshop on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at Eastern Oklahoma State College. The workshop, which will take place in the Johnnie Wray Theatre in Pratt Hall, will cover basic song structure and is being presented as part of Eastern’s first-ever Performing Arts Series. Those present will also have the opportunity to assist the duo in writing a new song.
This opportunity will provide a chance to work directly with the Tulsa natives who turned their appearance on NBC’s “The Voice” into musical careers. After debuting on the show, Alaska & Madi successfully launched themselves into Nashville, where they are currently working on their second album.
“We are honored to provide our students and the community the chance to work directly with these rising stars,” said Dr. Brandon Hendrix, Eastern’s director of instrumental and choral ensembles. “Alaska & Madi are well on their way to stardom, and we welcome the chance to learn from them.”
Also as part of the Series, the duo will perform a concert on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the E.E. Tourtellotte Student Center Ballroom.
Sponsored by the Latimer County Tourism Trust Authority, the Series was established to assist in continuing the Eastern Music Department’s nearly 100-year legacy. All proceeds from the event will support scholarships and departmental needs for current and future students.
Admission to the workshop is $10 at the door and includes refreshments afterwards that will be provided by the Latimer County Arts Council. Tickets to the concert start at $25 and may be purchased at the door, or online in advance. Visit alaskaandmadi.eventbrite.com for additional information and concert tickets.
