Spiegel named to Top 100 Nurses in Oklahoma
WILBURTON, OK (Sept. 8, 2016) – Eastern Oklahoma State College professor Heather Spiegel has been recognized as one of the top 100 nurses in the state by the Great 100 Nurses Foundation.
Spiegel, of McAlester, earned her associate degree in nursing from Eastern in 2002. She then earned her bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in 2004 and her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma in 2009. She has taught nursing at Eastern since 2008 and currently serves as the sophomore level coordinator. She also serves on Eastern’s scholarship committee.
“We are very proud of Heather and this accomplishment,” said Robin Nevling, the director of nursing at Eastern. “It is an honor to be teaching the next generation of nurses with some of the most talented nurses in the state.”
The Foundation was founded 30 years ago in New Orleans with the aim of honoring exemplary nurses. Since then, the Foundation has expanded beyond Louisiana and honors nurses from North Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma. This is the third annual Naming Celebration to be hosted in Oklahoma and the second time an Eastern faculty member has been chosen. Nursing professor Gina Bullock received the honor in 2014.
Nurses must be nominated for the honor and are selected based on their concern for humanity, their contributions to the nursing profession, and their mentoring of others. Spiegel will join her peers at a celebration at the Tulsa Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Sept. 20.
