Eastern’s McAlester Campus to host Saturday enrollment event during Reach Higher: RECONNECT Week

MCALESTER, OK (July 18, 2019) – Eastern Oklahoma State College’s McAlester Campus will host a special Saturday enrollment event on July 27 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. as part of a statewide initiative.

Oklahomans who have successfully completed some college coursework, but have not yet finished a college degree will have the unique opportunity to submit college admission applications, receive advisement and financial aid counseling, and enroll in college classes with support from knowledgeable staff members during Eastern’s Reach Higher: RECONNECT Week event.

Reach Higher: RECONNECT Week is a series of coordinated student recruitment events to be held July 27-Aug. 1 at participating Reach Higher campuses across the state.

At the Saturday enrollment event, representatives from Eastern, Southeastern Oklahoma State University and East Central University will be available to help students get admitted and enrolled for fall classes. Students can also receive information about financial aid options, Vocational Rehabilitation Services and Choctaw Nation Career Development. Students should bring copies of their high school and college transcripts to enroll.

“We’re excited to provide this Saturday enrollment event so that students can get their questions answered and take care of the necessary steps to start classes this fall,” said Anne Brooks, dean of the McAlester Campus. “If you’ve been thinking about college, but aren’t sure how to get started, this is an opportunity to get what you need on a Saturday instead of a busy work week. It’s a family-friendly event, so feel free to bring your children!”

Participants will enjoy free snow cones from Cowabunga on Down and there will be crafts and activities for children. Participants can also enter to win a one-time $500 scholarship toward classes at Eastern’s McAlester Campus.

Eastern will also be open until 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1 to assist students who can’t visit campus during regular business hours.

The primary goals of Reach Higher: RECONNECT Week are to increase awareness of the adult-friendly degree completion options available through the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education’s Reach Higher initiative and encourage adults who have earned some college credit to successfully complete their degrees.

Reach Higher provides two distinct degree completion program strands for adult learners. Reach Higher: FlexFinish offers flexible enrollment and online options to working adults who wish to pursue an associate degree in enterprise development or a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership at one of 21 participating colleges and universities in Oklahoma. Reach Higher: DirectComplete offers adult students the opportunity to complete a degree program connected with workforce development needs that align with Oklahoma’s 100 Critical Occupations list.

Eastern’s McAlester Campus is located at 1802 E. College Ave. This event is free and open to the public. Visit www.reconnectok.org or call 918-426-5272 to learn more about Eastern’s Reach Higher: RECONNECT event.
