Eastern to host summer camps for Children’s Theatre Workshop
WILBURTON, OK (May 7, 2013) – Local children and teens will have the opportunity to try out the stage for the first time or further their acting skills during Children’s Theatre Workshop summer camps at Eastern Oklahoma State College in May.
Eastern’s Theatre Department will host three camps for different age groups with each focusing on a William Shakespeare play.
Children ages seven to 11 can participate in “Future Stars” camp. It will take place May 21-24 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. At the end of camp, participants will present a staged reading of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at 11 a.m. on May 24 in the Johnnie Wray Theatre in Pratt Hall.
The “Playmakers” camp is for participants that are 12 to 15 years old. The camp will take place May 21-24 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. each day and the participants will present a staged reading of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” on May 24 at 3 p.m. in the Johnnie Wray Theatre.
The cost is $25 each for the “Future Stars” and “Playmakers” camps and all participants are guaranteed a role. The fee covers all supplies and a cast photo.
Finally, there is a “Junior Thespians” camp for 16 to 18 year olds May 27-31 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. All participants are guaranteed a role and a production assignment. The cost is $30 and participants must bring a sack lunch. The camp will conclude with a presentation of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” on May 31 at 6 p.m. in the Johnnie Wray Theatre.
