Eastern to honor veterans with special program and luncheon on Nov. 11
WILBURTON, OK (Nov. 3, 2014) – Eastern Oklahoma State College Honors students will host a Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
The event will begin at Noon with a free lunch in the Eastern Cafeteria for veterans and active service men and women. A special presentation “Honoring the Past while Preparing for the Future” will begin at 1 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom.
Director Ruth Askew Brelsford said the Honors Program considers it a great privilege to recognize local veterans every year on Veterans Day.
“Our students believe we owe a debt of gratitude that we can never really repay; however, we consider it an honor to be able to buy these men and women lunch every year,” Brelsford said. “We are especially impressed by the veterans we attend classes with every day who are home from our most recent wars and working hard to adjust to civilian life while taking advantage of the GI Bill.”
The presentation will feature two current Eastern students who will share their experiences of service to the country. Sophomores Gilbert Nail of Clayton and Rocky Kimbrell of Bentonville, Ark. are the featured speakers.
Honors students Djulinda of Jakarta, Indonesia, Kent Keeling of Albuquerque, N.M., Hunter Neal of Broken Bow and Wyatt Stanford of Haileyville will help present the event.
