Eastern names Morgan as coach for competitive cheer program; tryouts set for Aug. 3
WILBURTON, OK (July 22, 2014) – Eastern Oklahoma State College has selected Lindy Morgan of Wilburton to lead the college’s new co-educational competitive cheerleading program.
An Eastern alumna, Morgan competed on the EOSC Cheer Team and helped lead the Mountaineers to a national cheerleading championship in 2005. She continued her cheerleading career at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing.
“I am excited to help give Eastern students the same great experience that I had while cheering for the Mountaineers,” Morgan said. “Eastern is a great place to get a high-quality education and make long-lasting friendships. I look forward to building this program and our upcoming competitive season.”
Morgan will hold tryouts for prospective cheerleaders on Sunday, Aug. 3 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the C.C. Dunlap Field House.
For the past several years, Eastern’s cheerleading squad acted as a spirit organization and did not participate in competitions. However, the new squad will operate as a college-sponsored athletic program and take part in regional and national competitions.
Greg Warren, Eastern’s athletic director, said the addition of competitive cheerleading will help enhance the college’s athletic programs.
“The competitive cheer program will give more opportunities for prospective student-athletes to compete at the collegiate level, while creating a fun and spirited environment on campus and at home games,” Warren said.
