Eastern Homecoming festivities to include first Mountaineer 5K on Nov. 12
WILBURTON, OK (Oct. 14, 2016) – Get ready to run in Eastern Oklahoma State College’s first Mountaineer 5K.
The event will take place during Eastern’s Homecoming weekend on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. Hosted by the Eastern Alumni Association, the Mountaineer 5K is an event for the entire family. Both runners and walkers of all ages are welcome to participate.
Pre-registration is open now through Nov. 7 at a cost of $30 and includes a commemorative T-shirt. On-site registration is $35 and will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on the day of the race, with T-shirts available on a first come, first served basis. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Eastern Merit Scholarship fund.
Participants will meet on the west side of the Corner Café located at the intersection of Main St. and Central Ave. The course was measured by Ken Hardwick and has been certified by USA Track and Field (USATF). It follows the shortest possible route over the roadway starting south from the intersection of Pacific Ave. and Central Ave., east along Ash Ave., north on SE 6th St., east on Rock Island Ave., curves southeast, west, then straight south along Pleasant Hill Rd. to the gate before the bridge, and back to the starting point.
Medallions will be awarded to male and female winners in multiple age categories and the first overall man and woman will receive a plaque.
