Eastern basketball teams extend winning streak


WILBURTON, OK (Jan. 28, 2014) – The Eastern Oklahoma State College women’s and men’s basketball teams are moving up in the conference with victories over four teams in the past 12 days.

The Lady Mountaineers and Mountaineers both sit in second place in the NJCAA Region II after victories over Seminole State College, Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa, Murray State College and Carl Albert State College.

On Monday, the Lady Mountaineers earned a 65-60 victory over CASC in Poteau. Freshman Adriane Davis from San Antonio, Tex. led all scorers with 24 points. Sophomore De’Amber Brice from Denton, Tex. had 15 points and seven rebounds and sophomore Kaya Johnson from Oakland, Calif. added 14 points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Mountaineers are now 18-3 overall and 9-1 in conference play.

The Mountaineers extended their winning streak to seven games with a 111-97 victory over CASC. Eastern had six players in double digits including sophomore Devaughn Purcell with 30 points, freshman Aaron Young with 16 points, sophomore Dontavious Sears with 14 points, sophomores Alfonzie Wilson and Chauncy Parker with 12 points each and sophomore Mike McCode with 11 points. The win moves the Mountaineers to 17-4 overall and 7-3 in the conference.

Next up, Eastern will face Western Oklahoma State College on Thursday, Jan. 30 at home. The Lady Mountaineers will tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by the Mountaineers at 8 p.m.
