2016 Mountaineer Mania gives high school seniors taste of college life at Eastern

1/4/2017

WILBURTON, OK (Jan. 4, 2017) – Hundreds of area high school seniors got a taste of college life recently when they visited Eastern Oklahoma State College for Mountaineer Mania. Over 400 GEAR UP students from 26 area high schools were among the guests on campus for a day of fun, food and information. Eastern President Dr. Stephen Smith welcomed the students and spoke about the variety of academic programs, affordable tuition and quality professors that make the college special.

Students attended breakout sessions presented by faculty and staff representing various academic areas on campus. Eastern students and faculty provided information and answered questions about their organizations and academic programs as students participated in campus tours. Students enjoyed an outdoor picnic lunch, free t-shirts and other prizes.

During the event, Eastern waived the $15 admission fee for students that submitted a completed application packet, which included an application for admission, high school transcript and ACT scores. Over 280 seniors submitted their application packets.

“We had a blast!” said GEAR UP Project Director Linda Morgan. “It was a wonderful opportunity for area seniors to learn about the campus, ask questions and talk to current students and professors. Eastern’s faculty, staff and members of the GEAR UP team opened the doors to their home (Eastern) and welcomed the students. We look forward to the students attending Eastern in the fall.”
